FRUITS
Juicy white and yellow-fleshed peaches and nectarines are in peak season and offer excellent eating quality. Perfect for making char-grilled peaches with coconut sour cream & honey.
For something different, try the unique donut peaches and nectarines or red-fleshed nectarines. These low-acid stone fruits are incredibly tasty and offer a distinct shape and flavour. Most peaches and nectarines are retailing at $3-$10 per kilo based on size and variety.
Your local greengrocer might have cheaper bananas this week! The high humidity is causing bananas to ripen faster, so there are some great bargains to snap up and enjoy.
Limes are fantastic value this week, selling for 50¢-$1 each or $3-$10 per kilo when purchased in bulk. Their zesty juice enhances seafood dishes, marinades, and even desserts like tangy lime butter or creamy lime tarts.
Make the most of the late-season Tasmanian cherries, which are firm, sweet and full of flavour. They are perfect for snacking, baking into muffins, or making cherry relish. Prices vary from $10-$35 per kilo depending on size, with jumbo cherries (34-36mm plus) and fetching premium prices.
For a tropical treat, pick up juicy lychees. They are easy to peel and sweet, costing $15-$25 per kilo. The jumbo-sized Erdon Lee variety is priced around at $50 per kilo. Combine lychees with mango, banana, and passionfruit pulp for a refreshing summer dessert.
New season Sunraysia grapes are exceptionally crisp and naturally sweet. Available in red, green, and black-skinned seedless varieties, these grapes range from $5-$20 per kilo, depending on the variety.
Tomatoes are plentiful and bursting with flavour. Enjoy them fresh in salads or cooked into sauces. They are available for $3-$6 per punnet or kilo, depending on the variety. Pair them with basil, garlic, salt, and pepper for a deliciously simple dish. Enjoy them in a tomato medley, mozzarella & basil salad.
Plums are abundant with a wide variety of shapes, colours, and flavours ranging from honey-sweet to tangy. Choose from blood plums and yellow-fleshed varieties, priced between $4-$14 a kilo.
VEGETABLES
Avocado prices have firmed up as we are now at the end of the current Hass season. Larger sized Reed avocados are in season and favoured for their creamy texture and rich, nutty flavour. They are priced between $3.50-$5 each, depending on size and quality.
Sweetcorn is fresh and at its peak, retailing at $1-$1.50 per cob. Its natural sweetness makes it perfect for salads, fritters, salsas, and side dishes.Try these avocado, sweetcorn & tomato salsa salad cups.
Snake beans, with their long, flexible pods and green bean-like flavour, are great value at $2-$2.50 per bunch. Slice them into stir-fries, curries, or salads for added texture.
Red capsicums add vibrant colour and flavour to any dish. Prices will vary from $3-$10 a kilo, depending if they are field-or glasshouse grown and if they are Aussie grown or imported from New Zealand. Capsicums are delicious when roasted, grilled, or stir-fried.
Zucchinis are versatile and easy to prepare-no peeling required! Their mild flavour makes them family-friendly. Add to pasta, risottos, rissoles, cakes, and salads. They are priced at $3-$6 per kilo.
Mushrooms are perfect for summer grilling. Jumbo flat mushrooms and button varieties are available for $12-$14 per kilo. Grill them whole or skewer with halloumi for a tasty vegetarian option.
Baby spinach leaves are fresh and convenient, ideal for light summer salads. Pre-packed bags (100g-180g) are $3-$4, or buy loose for $15-$20 per kilo.
Eggplants are glossy and fresh, selling for $4-$7 per kilo. Grill or roast them for use in vegetable lasagne, Mediterranean dishes, or pizza toppings.
Leafy and nutritious kale is a popular choice for green juices, stir-frying or adding shredded to salads, frittatas and omelettes. Add a bunch to your shopping list as they are only $2-$3 for a generous bunchkale with garlic, currants & pine nuts
FLOWERS
Fill a vase with the beauty and fragrance of fresh, in-season blooms! Delight in the sweet scent of tuberose, spray roses, and the timeless elegance of David Austin roses. For bold pops of colour, brighten your space with vibrant gerberas, dahlias, gum blossom, phlox, zinnias, celosia, sunflowers, and tropical flowers. Prefer something softer? Choose delicate, hydrangea, lisianthus, pineapple lilies, and alstroemeria for gentle, dreamy tones. Keep your flowers looking their best by trimming the stems, changing the water every 2–3 days, and adding a floral.
