Nothing tastes more summery than fresh mangoes . Juicy, fragrant and naturally sweet, they’re perfect enjoyed on their own or transformed into fresh fruit salads, smoothie bowls or a zesty mango, chilli & coriander salsa to serve with BBQ seafood, chicken or pork. Choose from Kensington Pride, Calypso, R2E2 and Lady Jane varieties, priced at $2.50–$6 each, depending on size and variety.

Vibrant pink-fleshed papaya is rich in antioxidants, vitamin C and natural sweetness. Enjoy it chilled with a squeeze of lime for breakfast or team with mint, berries or passionfruit — for vibrant fruit salad. Papaya is great value at $3–$7 a kilo.

Juicy new-season peaches and nectarines freshly harvested from orchards in NSW, South Australia and Victoria are available at your local greengrocer. Choose from white or yellow flesh varieties, perfect for snacking, baking, grilling or slicing into salads. Prices range from $5–$15 a kilo, depending on size and variety.

Early apricots have a deliciously sweet–tart flavour and are ideal for poaching, baking, roasting or enjoying fresh. Ripen firm apricots in a paper bag to soften. Try grilled apricots with raspberries and yoghurt — simply divine. Golden apricots are $6–$20 a kilo.

Fresh berries continue to delight — plump strawberries are $3–$5 a punnet (or $7–$10 for extra-large plates), blueberries and raspberries are $3–$4 a punnet and flavoursome blackberries are $4-$6 a punnet.

Melons are thriving as the days warm up. Rockmelons, honeydew and Piel de Sapo melons are $3–$5 each, and whole seedless watermelon is $1–$1.50 a kilo. Serve chilled as a refreshing snack or plate up this tasty watermelon, rocket & haloumi salad for a light summery meal.

It’s officially cherry time! Whether you prefer soft and juicy or firm and crisp, cherries are a seasonal treat bursting with antioxidants. Perfect for snacking, gifting or festive entertaining. Expect to pay $10–$30 a kilo, depending on size and variety.

Australian grown Valencia oranges (our summer orange) are in season and a thrifty citrus buy at $2-$4 a kilo.

New-season plums from the North Coast and Queensland are now appearing instore -early fruit may be slightly firmer, but sweetness will build as the season progresses.

VEGETABLES

Veg

Beetroot is a powerhouse vegetable and terrific value at $1.50–$3 a bunch. Roast, steam or grate raw into salads. Pair with goat’s cheese, walnuts and spinach for a vibrant salad full of flavour and colour.

Broccolini and Asian greens — including bok choy, choy sum and gai lum — are thriving before summer heat sets in. Quick to cook and rich in nutrients, they’re ideal for fast mid-week meals. Broccolini is $2.50-$3 a bunch, and Asian greens are $1.50–$2 a bunch.

Fresh Australian mushrooms are in excellent supply and superb quality. Their rich umami flavour and versatility make them perfect for grilling, tossing through pasta, stuffing or adding to risotto. Mushrooms are $11–$15 a kilo.

The large Telegraph cucumbersare excellent value this week at $1.50–$2 each. For longer shelf life, store them separately from fruit, as ethylene can cause them to soften and spoil more quickly.

Green onions (shallots) are great value at $1.50–$3 a bunch and add gentle onion flavour to salads, omelettes and dressings. Spring onions with the small bulb are also available at $4–$5 a bunch.

Jap pumpkin is a terrific buy at $1.50–$3 a kilo. Its sweet flavour intensifies when roasted — try adding spices like paprika, cumin, rosemary or cinnamon for a delicious twist.

Crisp and refreshing Iceberg lettuce is a salad essential at $3-$4 a head. Slice it into chunky wedges and serve with creamy dressing, crispy bacon, cherry tomatoes and chives for a delicious classic wedge salad.

FLOWERS

Flowers

A stunning selection of late spring flowers is now blooming. Look for stunning peonies in blush pink, white, coral and rich red — available only for a short time. Also in season: hydrangeas, proteas, oriental lilies, roses, dahlias, sunflowers, lisianthus, waratahs, smoke bush, queens anne’s lace, pincushions, tulips, stock, sweet william, delphinium, gerberas and striking king proteas. Visit your local florist and take home a bunch.
