e are spoiled for choice when it comes to new season grapes. Select from seeded and seedless varieties, with grape colours ranging from pale green, pink or black. Varieties include Crimson, Black America, Midnight Beauty, Muscatels, Sweet Globe, Sultana, Thompson, Sweet Celebration, Sapphire, Ivory and Cotton Candy. Grab a bunch for $4-$20 a kilo, depending on the variety.

Tangy limes are plentiful and very affordable at $5-$7 a kilo or 50¢-$1 each, look for bulk buy specials. To maximise the volume of juice you get from a lime, roll limes between your palm and the benchtop to loosen fibres before cutting and juicing.

Sweet figs are sublime. Figs team equally as well with savoury foods such as nuts, meats and cheese. Try adding figs to a homemade pizza, teamed with prosciutto and feta. Enjoy quality figs for $1-$3 each. A little natural syrup at the base is a good sign of ripeness, but excessive leaking can mean it's overripe.

Royal Gala apples are available from late January through to August, they are a medium in size and the skin has a yellow base with red flushes. Royal gala apples are $5-$7.50 a kilo. Alternative try something different like a new-season Dazzle or Sassy apple for $7-$7.50 a kilo. To maintain an apples crunch, store them in the fridge.

Available until late autumn, Williams pears are fast-ripening, sweet and juicy, perfect for poaching or adding slices for firm pear to a salad, wash and enjoy as a fibre-rich snack or bake a batch of pear and pecan muffins. Williams’ pears are $4-$6 a kilo, depending on size.

eather events in Far North Queensland is impacting on banana supplies, which means the price of Cavendish, Eco and Sugar bananas have all increased by about $1-$2 a kilo. Depending on variety expect to pay $3.99 to $8.50 a kilo. There are 4-7 bananas to the kilo, depending on size and variety.

Sun-ripened golden and white-fleshed peaches and nectarines are at their prime and only $3-$10 a kilo, depending on flesh colour and size. The large golden-skinned and fleshed Golden Queen variety has started; these are gorgeous peaches to preserve or poach.

The smoothest and creamiest avocado you can get at this time of year is the Reed avocado from the Sunraysia area. Currently in season, these round-shaped, large and fleshy avocados are of excellent quality and are priced affordably at $4-$5 each.

Ripe rockmelons have a sweet and distinctive aroma. Like many fruits, rockmelons continue to ripen after harvesting. Once cut, store melons covered in the refrigerator. Rockmelons are selling $4-$5 each

From sweet to tangy, the plum varieties on offer are as diverse as they are delicious. And the best part is you'll find prices ranging from a budget-friendly $3 per kilo to more premium options priced at $15 per kilo for the latest varieties. Try whipping up a batch of spicy Asian-style plum sauce! This versatile condiment is the perfect accompaniment to grilled chicken, fish, or lamb, adding a burst of flavour with every bite.

Leafy and nutritious kale is a popular choice for green juices, stir-frying or adding shredded to frittatas and omelettes. Add a bunch to your shopping list, it is only $2.50-$3 for a generous bunch. This sautéed kale, enoki, mushrooms & eggs dish is an ultra-delicious way to start or finish the day with.

With its attractive orange flesh and rich creamy texture kumara is delicious roasted and enjoyed hot or cold in a salad or couscous dish. Spice it up with a little grated ginger, chopped coriander or cumin to make it extra special. Medium to large-sized kumara is $3-$6 a kilo.

Select small to medium-sized, firm white cauliflowers. At home, store in a plastic bag in the fridge and use within 4 days. Versatile cauliflower teams deliciously with flavour like cheese, lemon, ham, garlic, potatoes, mustard, breadcrumbs and curry. This roasted cauliflower with hummus dip cauliflower, is the delicious. Serve this meatless meal on the side or make a meal of it. Cauliflowers are $3.50-$ 4each.

Machine-harvested green beans are a thrifty buy at $5-$6 a kilo, while premium quality hand-picked beans are $10-$12 a kilo.

Versatile zucchinis are priced affordably at $4-$6 per kilogram, bringing both flavour and nutrition to your meals with dishes. Grilled to perfection, zucchinis lend a delectable touch to your barbecue feast. Embrace the goodness of zucchinis, served hot or cold.

Plump cobs of golden-coloured, sweet corn are delicious and quick to cook. Corn on the cob only requires 4-5 minutes simmering in boiling water, 2 minutes in the microwave and 6-8 minutes on the barbecue. Pick up a few cobs this week for 90¢-$1.30 each. ThisMexican chilli, sweetcorn & kumara salad is a tasty family salad or lunch box meal.

Grab a good deal on versatile eggplant at your local greengrocer, priced at $5-$8 per kilogram. This versatile veg is a budget-friendly addition to your meals, providing great taste without breaking the bank. Whip up an eggplant, lime & tofu laksa.

So why not swing by your local fruit and veg shop this week and pick up some zucchini to get your creative juices flowing? Not sure where to start?
