Fruit Your local greengrocer has the best eating and quality peaches and nectarines. Both yellow and white-fleshed fruit is plentiful. Consider buying fruit by the tray as it is more economical and the fruit keeps better, as it is handled less.

Cherries are irresistible and essential for Christmas celebrations. This Christmas, treat the family to roasted cherries served with turkey or ham. For maximum quality use within 2-3 days of purchasing. Your local greengrocer will have the best eating cherries at the right price.

Berries are a popular fruit this week, your local greengrocer has quality strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, red and white currants; you’re spoilt for choice.

Super juicy and refreshingly sweet, fresh lychees are a summer treat. Store lychees in a sealed plastic bag in the refrigerator.

Juicy, blushing apricots are sweet and tangy. If you are looking for a bargain small fruit that may have a few skin blemish is packed with flavour and well-priced. Larger blemish fruit is double the price. Char-grill apricots and add to a leafy salad. Poach or roast apricots to serve with turkey and pork.

Luscious, flavour-packed mangoes are a summer favourite and perfect to add to your festive desserts. Our mango, passionfruit and raspberry cream trifle is naughty but so nice. Make it the day before you need it and decorate just before serving.

Add crunchy, naturally sweet grapes to a salad or cheese board. New-season seedless grapes are crunchy and available in green, red and black-skinned varieties.

Fresh limes add a refreshing tang and zesty citrus flavour to marinates, salad dressings, festive beverages, seafood and desserts. This super easy and summery lime cheesecake with summer fruits is delicious.

Plump flavoursome, early new-season figs are now available at your local greengrocer.

Serve creamy fleshed Hass avocados in salads, with prawns or on toasted with Christmas ham. Nutritious avocado makes a meal more luxurious. This avocado, baby spinach and prawn salad makes a fabulous light meal or starter.

Watermelon is picked ripe and ready to eat watermelon is a refreshing snack in summer. For a simple summer dessert, serve a platter of chilled juicy watermelon wedges with cubes of luscious Turkish delight or for watermelon appetizers, top cubes or watermelon with feta, olives and mint. Whole watermelons are available for $2-$2.50 a kilo.

This week Queensland tomatoes prices firmed up, as the unfavorable growing conditions reduced supply. Buy tomatoes and ripen them at home out of the refrigerator to ensure they reach maximum flavour. Looking for an impressive salad to wow your guests? Try this country-style tomato and fennel salad it isa great side dish to serve with chicken, pork or ham.


Vegetables There is no shortage of seasonal vegetables. Your local greengrocer will have a fabulous selection to make cooking and Christmas feast premium quality.

Don’t forget the carrots for the Santa’s reindeers, for roasting or adding summery salads. Roasted carrots are deliciously sweet; sprinkle with fresh thyme when roasting for added flavour.

Fresh herbs boost the flavour and a low in kilojoules. Sprinkle fresh thyme sprigs across roasted carrots vegetables, add sage and parsley to your turkey stuffing. Team basil with tomatoes it’s a natural combination. This basil, spinach and olive pesto, ricotta and tomato bruschetta is fresh idea perfect for serving for lunch or as a starter. Fresh herbs are $2-$4 a bunch.

Tasty Queensland grown machine and premium handpicked beans are perfect to serve hot or cold. Toss cooked beans with a drizzle of olive oil, lemon rind and roasted garlic and serve hot.

Who doesn’t love crunchy potatoes? But image crunchy potatoes with cheddar cheese crumbs, so delicious and easy, give them a try. Perfect for roasting or a potato salad Desiree, Pontiac, Brushed, Kipfler, and Dutch Cream potatoes are in season. If love a good potato salad than this potato, dill, bacon and egg salad is delicious.

Asparagus is fast to cook and ultra-versatile, add to salads, serve with seafood or barbecue.

Summer is the time to enjoy eggplants. Great for soaking up flavours, eggplant is delicious roasted, grilled, barbecued or baked. Adding eggplant to your festive salads; this Lebanese char-grilled eggplant and tomato salad is delicious.

Baby fennel is in season and teams deliciously with seafood; add fennel to salads or roast to serve as a side to whole fish.

Add capsicum to pizza toppings, salads, stir-fries, char-grill or stuff with a meat and vegetable filling and bake until tender. Serve this colourful roasted capsicums with tomatoes and feta dish as a side dish or a light vegetarian meal serve.


Flowers Decorate your home or Christmas table with fresh cut flowers. There is a superb selection of quality flowers available this week but get in early to avoid disappointment. Red and white flowers are popular. Check out the red flowering gum, Christmas Bush, Christmas Bells, holly, spruce, potted poinsettias, snow in the mountain, fresh holly, Kangaroopaws, tiger and Oriental lilies, roses, gerberas, sunflowers, Queen Anne’s lace, hypericum, amaranthus and attractive textural foliage to complement your display.
