FRUIT

Sweet red fleshed papaya is delicious eating and available for $3-$6 a kilo. Kick start your day with a tasty Papaya Breakfast Bowl, perfect for boosting your vitamin C and A.

Quality Camerosa and Fortuna strawberries from Western Australia are a tasty buy at $2.50-$4 a punnet.

Northern Territory Kensington Pride mangoes are available for $3-$5 each, depending on size.

Super nutritious and brimming with antioxidants fresh blueberries are sweet and plump. Enjoy blueberries as a low kilojoule snack, no preparation required, just rinse in cold water or have you ever tried fresh Blueberry Scones. Blueberries are $3-$4 a punnet.

Super-juicy, golden fleshed pineapples are naturally refreshing, versatile and a good source of vitamin C. Kids adore frozen slices of pineapple as a refreshing, tangy treat or add fresh pineapple pieces to a pizza toppings or thread onto kebabs. Pineapples are $3-$5 each, depending on size.

Bananas make the perfect snack - they’re convenient and brilliant value at $2.50-$4 a kilo. Whip up a Banana & Buttermilk Muffins.

VEGETABLES

Premium quality and ultra-inexpensive Australian grown asparagus is at its peak. Make the most of the extremely adaptable and super tasty green asparagus at $1.50-$2 a bunch and try the plump, purple asparagus which is also available this week at $2.50--$3 a bunch.

Ultra-versatile Iceberg lettuce is a good size and super value at $2-$3 a head. Serve cut into wedges, the perfect way to gather a tasty dressing. Try our Lettuce, Cucumber, Radish & Chicken Salad.

Fresh and tasty bok choy is delicious steamed or tossed in a hot wok. Select bunches with crunchy pale stems and fresh looking green leaves. Bok choy is a bargain at $1.50-$2 a bunch.

Sweet and crisp yellow butter beans can be used in any recipe instead of green beans, their golden colour adds colour to a salad or stir-fry. Handpicked green beans are $8-$10 a kilo, butter beans are $8-$10 a kilo and machine harvested beans are $3-$4 a kilo.

Love your peas? Then now is the time to make the most of crisp, easy to prepare fresh spring peas. For the tastiest peas choose bright pods that are firm and plump, but not bulging. Add shelled peas to a salad, serve them with spring lamb or toss through pasta like this Minted Pea, Bacon & Ricotta Spaghetti. Kids love shelling peas and best of all they are most likely to eat them during the preparation. Peas are $3-$4 a kilo.

Delicious raw or roasted, large bulbs of fennel are a choice buy at $1-$2.

Generally sold wrapped in plastic to protect its thin skin and moist content, Telegraph cucumbers are in season and a thrifty $1.50-$2.50 each. Dice and add to a salsa or grate and whip up a Tzatziki Dip.

Plump ripe red Queensland salad tomatoes – are a bargain at $2-$3 a kilo.

Flavoursome broad beans are still available for $5-$7 a kilo. Remove bean from the pod, shell a second time then simmer in boiling water until just tender. Broad beans team superbly with chicken, lamb, mushrooms, feta, mint, potatoes and artichokes.

Golden fleshed Queensland grown Jap pumpkins are plentiful. Add diced roasted pumpkin, to a salad or serve warm in pasta dishes with fried sage leaves. $1-$1.50 a kilo whole, you’ll pay a little more if cut.

Broccolini – that delicious cross between Chinese broccoli (Gai Lum) and broccoli is a bargain at $1.50-$2 a bunch. Serve steamed, blanched or stir-fried.

FLOWERS

There is a fabulous selection of superb quality fresh flowers available this week at your local florist. Spring blooms include, red and white waratahs, king protea, boronia, sweet peas, stock, snapdragons, Queen Anne’s lace, flannel flowers, daisies, tulips, ranunculus, freesias, stock, iris, lavender, kangaroo paw, tiger lilies, poppies, bird of paradise, gerbera and delphinium.
